Mixed Media - Physical Piece & Digital NFT
The Wu-Visualization Series
This series consists of 13 individual pieces, one for each of the tracks. The pieces are 17x22” on archival paper with archival inks, all 1 of 1. Each piece also comes with a Digital NFT which is a video of the creation process for that particular track.
The Wu-Visualization Series is a set of 13 pieces, one representing each track from the Wu-Tangs 36 Chambers album. Each song was separated into 3 data sets: vocals, drums and bass, each of these data sets was run through a visualizer that took the audio data and turned it into a visual for that particular track and data set. These visualizations took the form of circular plots that mimic the look and feel of a vinyl record.
Each track had its own design with info about the album, an area for the plotted data viz and a memorable lyric quote from the track itself.
A pen plotter was used to draw the visualizations onto the paper, I chose to use a pen plotter to give it a more handmade feel but also like the inconsistency in the pen work which makes the piece feel more tangible and not a printed design.
The last phase of the creation process was the ink splatters, each piece has its own unique splatters which were all done by hand. The addition of the ink splatters was to grunge up the pieces and add another layer of handmade’ness while at the same time reflecting the music and its tone.
